FIRST IMPRESSIONS COUNT! TRADITIONALLY THE FIRST SCREEN OF A COURSE IS USED TO OUTLINE THE LEARNING OBJECTIVES. HOWEVER, THIS CAN BE PASSIVE AND MISSES A CHANCE TO MOTIVATE THE LEARNER.

- Act as a wake-up call
- Set a challenge
- Set a target or goal
- Describe ‘what’s in it for me’
Great for: micro learning, games, orientation, learner engagement
With the above methods, the learner becomes engaged in the module, understanding what is going to be required from them and crucially what they will get out of it. Here is a quick example:
In the above example we are using a scenario to draw the learner into the topic. The goal of the topic is to help a fictional character increase their investment and the challenge is set quickly and simply.
